
Jessica Michelle Chastain, born March 24, 1977 is an American actress. Her most famous work is her role in films with female-centric themes. She has won a variety of awards such as an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe Award. Time magazine listed her as one of the 100 most influential individuals on the planet in 2012. Chastain was drawn to acting at a young age and made her professional stage debut in 1998 in Shakespeare's Juliet. She was a student at the Juilliard School and was then contracted to a talent holding deal with John Wells, a television producer. She was frequent guest on various television shows, and also played roles in numerous stage productions. Her film debut came in Jolene (2008) when she was 31 years old. In 2011, Chastain achieved her breakthrough with six films, including The Tree of Life (2011), Take Shelter (2011) and The Tree of Life (2012). Chastain received Academy Award nominations for playing an aspirational socialite in the period drama The Help (2011) and an CIA analyst in the suspense thriller Zero Dark Thirty (2012). The science-fiction films Interstellar (2014), The Martian (2015) and It Chapter Two (2018) were commercially more successful. Chastain has also received praise for playing strong-willed women in the dramas A Very violent Year (2014), Miss Sloane (2016), and Molly's Game (2017), and in the TV miniseries Scenes from a Marriage (2021). After playing Tammy Faye Bakker, she was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress as well as Tammy Wynette in The Eyes of Tammy Faye (21), respectively. Chastain has founded Freckle Films to promote diversity in film production. She is also an investor in Angel City FC. She is vocal about gender equality, mental illness and racial equity. She is married to the fashion executive Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo who is her partner.
