April Ross
April Ross was one of only a few women beach volleyball players who have won medals at several Olympics. In Tokyo during the next few days she will attempt to win her third gold medal alongside the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross aims to earn her Olympic the first medal of gold however, she also hopes to earn more. It may well be that she has one chance, at 39 years old. But she's still confident of achieving top honours. Ross said on NBC Boston that if they perform at their very best, or even a good game and they are able to play well, the team can win a gold medal. That's why I'm taking some luck as well. Ross was born on the 22nd of October, 1982. She was raised in Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents and sister. Apart from participating in a variety of sports, Ross also attended Newport Harbor High School. She competed in basketball and the track as well as her indoor volleyball achievements as a pre-collegiate athlete. She was definitely the best player in indoor volleyball. According to her biography, she was an outside blocker as well as a middle hitter on the volleyball court during her high-school career. Gatorade Circle of Champions named her as the National Player of 1999. Also, she won the award in 2000. Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. Ross is currently playing alongside Klineman since the year 2017, but Ross's beach game was established well before that. In fact, she's been able to win multiple events, one of which was with an iconic volleyball player. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 to the year 2013. Kessy as well as Ross proved to be a formidable force in the international circuit, winning a 2009 world title together. In the 2012 Olympic Games, they received the gold medal. They were beaten out for the gold by the legendary team of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh (Jennings). Ross Jennings was the replacement for May-Treanor as she announced her retirement. Together, they won bronze medals in beach volleyball for the Rio Olympics in the year 2016. In high school and the many years before hitting the beach as a professional Ross balled out for the USC Trojans as an collegiate. It was a successful run for Ross at the college level. In 2000, as a freshman she played her way to Pac-10 and NCAA Freshman of the Year awards and was also an All-American. Her Trojans were also able to make it to the Final Four. Her personal life was tense after a devastating defeat in her sophomore year but was still successful in achieving the All-American award. In her last two seasons in the Trojans' program the team was led to success by winning two consecutive national championships. Individually she had cemented her place as a legend having won the 2003-04 Honda Sports Award as the nation's top female collegiate volleyball player. Ross took a course in International Relations at USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, was never given the opportunity to see Ross' daughter blossom into a beach volleyball superstar. Ross's mom died from breast carcinoma in the year 2001. Ross had just become sophomore at USC. But she still keeps her parent close to heart. Margie has been an inspiration in her life and on the beaches.
